The assumption for this arose in the 1860's by the supporters of Darwinian Theory who felt that the discontinuous distribution of a group of species called prosimians needed to be reconciled. In order to do this a number of possibilities were muted including, the notion that Africa, Madagascar, India and South East Asia had been connected by a continent bridging the Indian ocean where the first prosimians where thought to live.

As with Atlantis it was thought that this continent sank thus leading to the strange geographic dispersal of the prosimians.

Ley lines

Ley Lines : were 're-discovered' by a man called Alfred Watkins (1855-1935), on the 30th June 1921.
'Ley lines, or Leys, are alignments of ancient sites stretching across the landscape. Ancient sites or holy places may be situated in a straight line ranging from two to several miles in length.
A ley may be identified simply by an aligned placing of marker sites, or it might be visible on the ground for all or part of its length by the remnants of an old straight track.'Watkins noticed a straight line that passed over hilltops through various ancient points of interest, while he was looking at a map for features of interest.
At the time Watkins didn't really have a theory about what he had found; instead, on that June afternoon, "in a flash" he saw 'a whole pattern of lines stretching across the landscape.' His vision is described as follows in a book he titled, The Old Straight Track, which appeared four years later in 1925.

Life After Death

Life After Death : the question of life after death has puzzled mankind since the dawn of time.

Life Review

A life review is a phenomenon widely reported as occurring during near-death experiences, in which a person rapidly sees much or the totality of their life history in chronological sequence and in extreme detail. It is often referred to by people having experienced this phenomenon as having their life "flash before their eyes".

Although rare, there are also a few accounts of life reviews or similar experiences without a near-death experience such as the simpler out-of-body experience or under circumstances of intense threat or duress. While some scientists discount near-death experiences themselves or stigmatize their study, the large body of accounts, when set under scrutiny, tends to defy dismissal as hallucination or cerebral effect, by virtue of its unusual detail, volume, consistency, verisimilitude, narrators' credibility, and its insistent recounting of vividness and panoramicity.

Other purposes have included religious ceremonies to accumulate wealth, avoid danger, or eliminate enemies. Mantras originated in the Vedic religion of India, later becoming an essential part of the Hindu tradition and a customary practice within Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. She lured him into the depths of the sea where they married and raised several children. The story is considered to be just that, a story and nothing more than a legend.

Merefolk are said to grant three wishes to any man who manages to capture them. They sometimes marry humans producing sons who are great sailors.

Mermaids also are said to also have good qualities. They warn sailors of bad storms, and have helped kind persons in different ways.

When a human male manages to force a mermaid to join him on land and become his wife, such liasons were most likely doomed since an enchantment was required to give the mermaid human legs and the breaking of some taboo or promise would allow the mermaid to resume her natural form and escape.

The moon is seen as a female symbol, and was worshipped in ancient times as a powerful force. It is believed to be linked to the unconscious and our feminine side. The sacredness of the moon has been connected with the basic cyclic rhythms of life. The changing phases of the moon were linked to the death and rebirth seen in crops and the seasons, and also to the female monthly cycle that controls human fertility. The moon calendar is still important and many festivals exist around the lunar phases.

Moon Phases

Waxing - the moon is growing larger in the sky, moving from a narrow crescent just after the new moon towards the full moon.

The waxing moon grows from right to left and is called the 'right-hand moon' - the crescent is like the curve between the right-hand's index finger and thumb.

Waning - the moon is decreasing in size, moving from the full moon back towards a crescent as the new moon approaches. The waning moon decreases from right to left and is called the 'left-hand moon' because of its similarity to the curve on the left hand.Energy is now waning with the moon herself, and is linked with the Crone aspect of the Goddess.

Gibbous - during the phases between the First Quarter and the full moon, and between the full moon and the Last Quarter, when more than half of the disc is illuminated.
